Car Accident Injury

Injured in an Auto Accident?
Contact Our Leesburg Health Professional Team

An auto accident can cause serious, even devastating injuries that require immediate evaluation and treatment -- not just to ensure optimal healing, but also to ensure that you receive your full insurance claim benefit. Here at Buchanan Health Center, our nurse and chiropractors can administer non-surgical, drug-free auto accident injury care.

An auto collision or sudden stop transfers a great deal of force to the human body. The momentum may throw your head backward and forward, for instance, causing whiplash. Whiplash may involve soft tissue strain, cervical misalignment and pinched nerves, leaving you with neck pain headaches, vision problems, tinnitus and other discomforts. Further down the spinal column, twisting caused by the seat belt harness may produce thoracic spinal misalignment and herniated discs. A herniated disc in the lumbar spine can impinge the sciatic nerve. This can not only cause back pain, but it can also produce the leg pain, numbness, muscle weakness and tingling sensations associated with sciatica.

Getting help right away is critical when you've been in an auto accident. Even if you're not hurting, you may have sustained "hidden" injuries that only make themselves apparent after the initial shock and adrenalin have worn off. It's also critical in terms of receiving your full insurance benefits. Many Florida residents are unaware of the current state laws concerning PIP (Personal Injury Protection) auto insurance coverage. The 2012 updates to the law expressly state that Florida drivers must carry at least $10,000 in PIP coverage -- and if they're injured in an auto accident, they must receive the appropriate treatment within 14 days of the accident.

Immediate treatment must be documented as medically necessary by a doctor, advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP), physician assistant or other primary care professional. If you don't follow these steps, you may receive only $2,500 in coverage from your insurance company instead of the full $10,000.
